How to Find Bass From the Bank in Spring
Start With Seasonal Location
Spring bass move in stages. Early fish hold near deeper water with quick access to warming shallows. Spawning fish use protected pockets with firm bottom. Postspawn fish shift to shade, bluegill areas, grass edges, and ambush points.
From the bank, this means choosing access areas with nearby depth changes, cover, and food instead of fishing only the easiest open shoreline.
Look for High-Percentage Clues
Wind blowing into a bank, dark rock warmed by sun, muddy inflows after rain, isolated laydowns, dock shade, and grass points are all clues. One clue is useful; two or three together are worth serious time.
A small culvert, drain, or current seam can be better than a large featureless cove. Bass often use the smallest irregularity if it concentrates bait.
Move With a Purpose
Fish the closest water first, then cast parallel, then cover deeper angles. If a bank has no bites and no visible life after a focused pass, move. Spring rewards mobility, but only when each stop is tested with good angles.
